\"Lager,<\/a><\/div>\n
This classification allows to split the beer into 3 large families<\/strong>, which\u00a0 are divided into many sub-families.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Let\u2019s try to make things clear!<\/p>\n

ALE<\/strong>: are grouped under this name those beers fermented at high temperatures, between 18\u00b0 and 20\u00b0. The yeasts are the\u00a0Saccharomyces cerevisiae ones<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

LAGER:<\/strong>\u00a0the beers that go under this name are produced by\u00a0Saccharomyces carlsbergensis<\/strong>\u00a0yeasts and make a fermentation process at much lower temperatures, around 5\u00b0-6\u00b0. These beers have\u00a0range of flavors that goes from sweet to bitter and a chromaticity range from light to dark.<\/strong>\u00a0Most of the Lager beers are\u00a0pale\u00a0<\/strong>or of an intermediate color, with a\u00a0high carbonation<\/strong>, hop flavor from medium to high, and alcohol content of 3-5% by volume.\u00a0This\u00a0 method of brewing was widespread in the past and it is still used in the industrial process as it ensures the beer greater stability and repeatability.<\/strong><\/p>\n

LAMBIC<\/strong>: they are the\u00a0spontaneously fermented beers<\/strong>, certainly the oldest beers in the world, with unique characteristics. Thanks to the bacteria present in the air,\u00a0the sugars are converted into alcohol spontaneously without the addition of yeast.\u00a0<\/strong>These beers, that follow this ancient rules, are produced only\u00a0in a small area in southern Belgium<\/strong>: they are characterized by a typical sour aftertaste that can be mitigated by the addition of sugars or syrups.<\/p>\n

\"Beer<\/p>\n

The sub-families are very numerous and differ according to the different yeasts, grains, hops or malts used.<\/p>\n

In the family of ALE we can remember\u00a0the IPA, Indian Pale Ale<\/strong>: malts, hops and yeast are British and the beers have fruity and herbaceous aromas, medium body and they are characterized by a bitterness well balanced by the sweetness of the malts used. Close relatives of the IPA are the\u00a0American Pale Ale<\/strong>\u00a0which differ by a higher alcohol content and more pronounced bitterness.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Belgian Ales<\/strong>\u00a0are different from the\u00a0English Pale Ale<\/strong>\u00a0for the strong presence of spicy, fruity notes and the characteristic coppery color; the palate is \u00a0softer, round and warm.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Dark Ales<\/strong>, the typical British ales, are divided into two categories\u00a0Stout and Porter<\/strong>, both synonyms of dark and strong beers, characterized by a “toasted ” flavor, similar to coffee, due to roasted barley and wheat used in their production.<\/p>\n

Among the Ales there are also the widespread\u00a0Wheat Beer or Weissbier<\/strong>, the light-colored and turbid malted classic beer made of wheat.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Pilsener, or Pils<\/strong>,\u00a0 is the most famous beer among the Lager ones: it is \u00a0the typical Bavarian beer, born in the first half of the nineteenth century in the areas around the\u00a0river Plzen<\/strong>, hence the name, and characterized by light color, almost golden and a sweetness due to the characteristics of the water used.<\/p>\n

At the industry level is definitely the most produced and consumed beer.<\/p>\n

Next to the Pilsener, in Bavaria, there is the widespread\u00a0Oktoberfestbier<\/strong>, a lager with an amber color and a strong malt \u00a0component, produced in spring and consumed in the traditional beer festival in Monaco: the wellknown\u00a0Oktoberfest.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is not a real regulation for the different styles of beer produced in the world and neither a rigid classification of belonging to one of the three main families: the producers of craft beers know it very well. Infact\u00a0every master brewer creates, tests, tries to find a nice balance between the various components<\/strong>\u00a0of beer without forgetting the typical bitterness of the beer, the only parameter that can be measured according to\u00a0the scale IBU (International bitterness Units )<\/strong><\/p>\n
