Initially the seasonal and spicy beers were consumed within the family but, over the years, the Christmas Beers began to be appreciated all over the World.<\/h3>\n

Here we are, once again, close to Christmas and, in addition to the brightly lights and various decorations, the typical fragrance of ginger, cinnamon, cloves, honey, chocolate, raisins, dried fruiti is in the air. Usually used as ingredients for traditional desserts, from simple cookies to more elaborate cakes, but since few years now it has been possible to find such a bouquet of aromas also in\u00a0craft beers\u00a0<\/strong>specially prepared for Christmas: the\u00a0Christmas Beers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Historically, the initiators of this tradition were the\u00a0Belgian brewmasters\u00a0<\/strong>who, from the end of the nineteenth century, began to produce special beers able to match the delicious and full-bodied dishes prepared on the occasion of these festivities. Of higher alcohol content than regular beers, also suitable for the harsh winter temperatures, these\u00a0Christmas Beers<\/strong>, thanks to the different spices and ingredients they are enriched with, go perfectly with most of the traditional Christmas dishes.<\/p>\n

Initially these\u00a0seasonal\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0spicy beers\u00a0<\/strong>were consumed within the family or at least within the village where the brewery was located, but, \u00a0over the years, thanks to the success gained, these beers began to be marketed outside the small circle of local consumers and the tradition of the\u00a0Christmas Beers<\/strong>\u00a0became to widespread in\u00a0Europe\u00a0<\/strong>first and then land on the shores of the\u00a0United States<\/strong>, where now the craft brewers are very popular.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of the twentieth century \u00a0this phenomenon took place even in\u00a0England<\/strong>, where, to this day, it has been becoming a product that attracts more and more scholars and lovers of spicy beer.\u00a0The Ridgeway Brewery<\/strong>, located in a small town, west of\u00a0London<\/strong>, set up in 1779 for Christmas produces ten special beers, including five dedicated to the”bad elf<\/strong>” who makes bad jokes to Santa Claus (look at the labels).<\/p>\n

\"Birre<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Bad Elf<\/strong>, a very\u00a0aromatic\u00a0<\/strong>and excellent\u00a0roasted IPA<\/strong>, full of English hops and perfect for winter evenings.\u00a0Very Bad Elf<\/strong>, a\u00a0darker\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0more alcoholic<\/strong>\u00a0version of the previous one, with sweet notes of\u00a0toasted hazelnut\u00a0<\/strong>and characterized by the massive use of Pale malt.\u00a0Seriously Bad Elf<\/strong>, a very personal interpretation of the Belgian tripel beer, with hints of honey, white fruit and rhubarb, in the end pleasant\u00a0bitter aftertaste<\/strong>\u00a0closes the tasting. Criminally Bad Elf , a “happy” version for a classic barley wine, \u00a0with a sweet aroma of\u00a0candied fruits<\/strong>. The last one is the\u00a0Insanely Bad Elf<\/strong>, an imperial red ale, with a wide bouquet of\u00a0sweet plums<\/strong>,\u00a0bananas\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0honey\u00a0<\/strong>(this beer can be aged).<\/p>\n

Even in\u00a0Japan<\/strong>, where Christmas is not a traditional festival, but where the people are always ready to not miss an opportunity to celebrate, the first\u00a0Christmas craft beers<\/strong>\u00a0begun to be produced.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0Italy\u00a0<\/strong>the phenomenon began a few years ago and breweries like\u00a0Birrificio di Lambrate<\/strong>,\u00a0Birrificio Indipendente Elav<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0Baladin\u00a0<\/strong>are ready to put on the market their originals and seasonal productions.<\/p>\n
